History
During the year 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology by Anton Raky. The original name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
The cornerstone for SMAG was laid during 1937, when the Salzgitter Group purchased a manufacturing facility for its constructing drilling machinery. In the year 1986, the company bought the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the succeeding years.
