Telescoping Boom Lifts
Telescopic booms are large industrial machines designed with a straight boom arm that is extendable. The boom is typically located on a rotating turntable. The telescoping boom lifts are typically used for jobs that require tasks to be carried out at heights that exceed other kinds of lifts. For example, employees are able to carry out exterior repairs or renovations on buildings of medium height but utilizing these lifts instead of having the extra work of setting up an outside elevator or a pulley system.
The boom lift is only designed to hold a single person. These buckets are more suitable to specific jobs such as electrical repair, rather than general maintenance or window washing. These lifts come in gas or electric configurations and are available with both outdoor and indoor tires.
Scissor Lifts
Scissor lifts are named for the cross-braces below the work platform. These braces squeeze together in order to push the platform straight up. Since these types of machines should be positioned directly beneath the work location, as opposed to boom lifts, these units are way more limited in their use.
Scissor lifts do, however, provide bigger platforms that allow the operator controlling the lift to access a bigger work surface once the lift is raised. With scissor lifts, all-terrain capability is less of an issue with these models, because they need to sit on flat ground in order to be used. Scissor lifts are great for being used for window installation or cladding, because they provide the workers with the desired mobility; they are also a great choice for exterior repairs or window cleaning applications.
Boom Trucks vs. Cranes
The boom truck or cherry picker refers to the utility vehicle often utilized to raise workers for various jobs performed at heights. Usually, these types of trucks have a cab. It is here where the driver sits and controls the equipment. There is a bucket for where the employee can stand as well as an actuator arm for raising the boom and a winch for carrying.
Cherry pickers could raise workers up to heights which were previously inaccessible. The cranes function is to lift both heavy supplies and equipment for one location to another. There are a variety of different crane types that can carry out a variety of purposes. Both of these different types of machinery excel at various jobs and are suitable for specific applications and accomplishing certain jobs.
